Up All Night - "New Car"

"New Car" makes better use of Ava while Chris and Reagen make some grown up decisions.  Some thoughts on tonight's episode coming at you after the break... but first let me shape shift into a bird.

If you haven't heard, "Up All Night" has been picked up for a full season after some solid opening numbers.  This weeks episode, while not as strong as the previous three (other than Ava's character), is still a good example why.

We find Chris and Reagen in need of a new family car, after a failed attempt to take a beach day in their BMW convertible.  The new car situation gave us some funny jokes (Delorean - "that car makes skid marks of fire", A-team Van - "it's like my childhood painted a beautiful rainbow, BMW - "Is that Susan Summers from American Graffiti?") and a nice look at Chris and Reagen's chemistry together.  Depressed about losing the convertible for a more traditional family vehicle, they find themselves reverting to their lush ways, drinking wine from coffee mugs, while car searching. Which leads to the hilarious scene with the Native American, Pete Little Bear, showing up with the A-team van for the hung over Chris and Reagen.  Eventually they are forced to do the grown up thing, and get the normal family vehicle.

Our B-story involved Ava going through a new crisis, where she wants to prove to the world she is smart, despite the fact she dropped out of high school.  I have had my complaints about Ava, mainly that she is way over the top and the writers seemed to have a hard time fitting her into Chris and Reagen's post baby life.  However, tonight they nailed it. Her annoyances were toned down nicely and while she is still all about herself and insecurities, it worked.  The writers were even able to bring her into Chris and Reagen's story nicely, as Chris helps her cram all night for an interview with a well regarded economics author.

Overall, "Up All Night" looks to be deserving it's full season pickup.  What does everyone else think?
